During the 4th of July weekend, we embarked on an adventure at Briggs Pond, a unique Bed & Breakfast. We discovered this establishment on Trip Advisor, where it received positive reviews. The reviews can be accessed here.

Initially, their menu consists solely of vegetarian options and they do not feature any unique decorations that are commonly seen in Bed & Breakfast establishments. The atmosphere of the place was tranquil and simplistic.

Kevin and I are drawn to the charm and unique atmosphere of staying in a Bed & Breakfast. However, I must confess that some of them can be quite eerie...

Alright, just to clarify, the location in question is a museum located in Louisville, KY. Let's move on from discussing sleeping arrangements and focus on our adventure. On our first day, we went on a walking tour of Boonville, MO. I had high hopes for this activity, but as with most walking tours, we ended up skipping some of the stops when we realized they were private homes of people we were not familiar with and had no interest in getting to know. Instead, we headed straight to the more interesting spots, such as the Katy Trail Bridge.

Next, we abandoned the walking tour and began our "warm up" bike ride, covering a distance of approximately 7 miles.

This is us after the bike ride… we still don’t look too bad… we still looked happy and fresh…

After freshening up, we headed to Abigail's, a restaurant located in Rocheport, for dinner. The place had received positive feedback on the reliable platform, Trip Advisor. The following day, Saturday, we started off with a vegetarian breakfast. Daria, the owner, kindly provided me with bananas to ensure I didn't get hungry. With that, we began our journey.

Our journey began in Rocheport, where we took in the various scenery as we made our way along the trail. Along the way, we stumbled upon a cave on the cliffside that was previously used as a storage for dynamite.

We also found an old MKT sign along the trail

Having made multiple pit stops for photo opportunities, we had covered an impressive distance of 12 miles. By this point, we were feeling fatigued and in need of sustenance.

Interestingly, we happened upon Cooper's Landing unexpectedly. Despite not having come across it during our prior research, we were grateful to find it as it provided nourishment and hydration. Additionally, I had an idea to continue our journey 🙂 (details to follow later!) While at Cooper's Landing, we dined on Thai cuisine and quenched our thirst with cold water.

This is when I told Kevin… “Hooorraayyyy!!! Now we can go 10 more miles :)” Not really…. we shouldn’t have done that… but we were young and stupid so we went on… 10 more miles..

At Wilton… Kevin thought that it is better that we push through Hartsburg which is only a couple more miles and they have “fancier” restrooms… not really, they just have toilet paper and you can wash your hands… with water.

24.26 miles later we arrive at Hartsburg..

We stretched and drank water and off we start our painful journey of 25 miles back to Rocheport. We were so tired we didn’t even bother taking another picture

Lessons Learned:

  1. Wear appropriate clothing. Invest on some fancy cycling pants that might help you sit longer on the bike if you are planning to put on miles

  2. Bring as much cold frozen water bottles as you can specially if you are ridding in the summer.

  3. Don’t forget sunblock

  4. Take breaks. Like I said we were young and stupid and thought we were indestructible just because we did a whole round of Insanity Max 30!

  5. Have fun! It is not the destination but the journey!

“Till next time 🙂
